Ulises Cortés
Ulises Cortésis a researcher of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) since 1982 (tenure 1988) working on several areas of Artificial Intelligence in the Software Department such as: knowledge acquisition for and concept formation in knowledge-based systems, as well as on machine learning and also in autonomous intelligent agents.
 
He has been awarded with the Advanced Research Accreditation by “Agència per a la Qualitat del  Sistema Universitari de Catalunya” (2004). He has been awarded with the CLUSTER chair at the École  Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) for 1998-1999. He is the Coordinator of the Artificial Intelligence PhD program of the Technical University of Catalonia (since 1991). Since 1991 he advised 15 PhD. Thesis and more than 20 Master Thesis in the field of Artificial Intelligence and has more than 30 papers in international journals and more than 75 papers in Conferences and Workshops in the same period. He has been guest editor for special issues in several international journals as: AiCommunications, Journal of Computer-aided and Civil Engineering, Computación y Sistemas, Environmental Modelling & Software, Applied Intelligence: The International Journal of Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, and Complex Problem-Solving Technologies, and International Journal of Approximate Reasoning.
I am member of the Editorial Committee of Computación y Sistemas and Research on Computing Science. I am co-founder and co-organizer of the following workshops: Workshop on Binding Environmental Sciences and Artificial Intelligence (BESAI), Workshop on Bayesian and Causal networks, from inference to Data Mining (CANEW) and, Workshop on Agents Applied in Health Care. He is the CLUSTER General Secretary from July 2005. He is coordinates the activities of the Chair IPN-UPC. Funded by SERFIN-SANTANDER (2005).
He is a founder member of the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence (ACIA). Since 1998 until 2002 he has been member of the ACIA Board of Directors. Since July 2002 he has been appointed member of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence Board (ECCAI).
He is the coordinator of the "Agentcities" (DEP-2003-00024) finalist application to the Descartes Prize 2003. [ia@lsi.upc.edu]
